Juan Martin Del Potro has been knocked out of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. In the semi final match, De Potro was beaten by the Serbian superstar Novak Djokovic. Djokovic won the match in the straight sets by 6-3, 7-6(4). This was a convincing win for the world no. 1. It took him just 104 minutes to make his way into the finals.
Del Potro was expected to give a tough fight to Djokovic, but, the Argentinean was not at his best on Friday. Talking to the reporters after the match, Djokovic said, βIn the second set, there were a few tough moments, but, I handled them well. I kept myself calm throughout the match. Del Potro is a very good player, but, I was backing myself to win the match in the straight sets and I am very happy that I eventually managed to do it.β
This was the 10th match between Del Potro and Djokovic. Djokovic had won seven out of the previous nine matches. Some bookmakers were offering a betting bonus for fans who backs Del Porto to win, though even with the bonus punters were left disappointed at the way Del Potro fell.
Both the players had a steady start in the match and neither of them dropped his serve in the first five games of the opening set. Djokovic was leading by 3-2 at the end of the 5th game. Djokovic gave Del Potro the first blow in the 6th game and enhanced his lead to 4-2. The Serbian superstar held his serve in the 7th and the 9th game and won the opener quite easily by 6-3.
In the second set, both the players dropped their serve twice and the set went into the tie breaker. Djokovic outclassed his opponent in the tie breaker and wrapped up the proceedings.
In the final match, Djokovic will lock horns with the Czech player Tomas Berdych who made his way into the finals by defeating Roger Federer.
