Andy Murray’s countrywoman, Laura Robson, has made it clear that she will take part in the AEGON Classic tennis tournament which is going to start from 9th of June at Edgbaston.
This tournament is played on grass courts and is organized just before the Wimbledon Championship. So, the players normally see this as a preparation for the big event coming up.
A couple of days ago, the French player Marion Bartoli and Robson’s compatriot Heather Watson had also confirmed their participation in this tournament.
Talking to the reporters about the participation of Robson, the commercial director of Lawn Tennis Lawrence Robertson said, “It’s really great for us that both Laura Robson and Heather Watson are going to participate in this event. It’s good for the spectators as well. They will see some quality tennis out there.”
“Laura has done her reputation no harm as a player in the last one year or so and it’s good to have her in this tournament again.”
When Robson herself was asked about this tournament, she said, “I love playing on grass courts. So, I am looking forward to this tournament.”
“It’s a home tournament for me, but, I haven’t had much success in it so far. This time, I am looking to improve my record.”
Robson has participated in AEGON Classic twice in the past and on both the occasions; she got knocked out of the second round.
When asked about her becoming the top ranked British female tennis player recently, she said, “I have performed well off late and it’s a reward of that. I am really feeling proud about it. I want my ranking to go further up. For that, I will have to win matches consistently and I am up for it.”
