She might have played the last time professionally in the US Open back in 2011 but when former world number Venus Williams took to the court for the first time since then in the Sony Ericsson Open, she looked much leaner and fitter than she was before but that run came to a sudden halt when her progress was stopped in its tracks by the Polish ace Agnieszka Radwanska in the Quarter Final stage where she lost in straight sets by a score of 6-4, 6-1.
Williams, who had been suffering from Sjogren’s syndrome made her highly publicized comeback in to the world of professional tennis, having withdrawn her name from the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year. In her matches in the previous rounds, Venus Williams looked to be well on course for a successful return to the tennis circuit and although it was evident that she was lacking full match practice, she did quite well considering the fact that she had been out of action for such a long time.
Williams stated of the disease a few months back that it was an auto-immune disease that caused fatigue and soreness of the joints and it was very difficult to get rid of it once one has developed the condition but she managed to fight against it and overcome it to make a more or less successful comeback to the world of professional tennis. Venus Williams praised the efforts of Radwanska and the ease with which she managed to defeat her.
But Venus is also very happy at the progress she has made over the past month after returning to full training and is hopeful that if she gets her fitness level up a little bit more, she will be able to last the entire season.
